Dusk Linux is a Debian-based operating system. The server edition runs Dusk ID, Office, Chat, Forge, Vault and Sentinel behind one sign-in, on hardware you control. The desktop edition is GNOME, set up and ready.

Install

You need a machine with UEFI firmware and Secure Boot turned off, and a disk of at least 6 GB that you are happy to erase.

  1. Write the image to a USB stick (it will be erased). On Linux or macOS, find the stick's device name first (lsblk, or diskutil list on a Mac), then: 
    sudo dd if=dusk-linux-server-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress conv=fsync
    On Windows, use balenaEtcher, or Rufus in DD image mode. You can also burn the image to a DVD.
  2. Boot from it. Use your machine's boot menu (often F12, F11 or Esc at power on).
  3. Choose the disk. The installer lists your disks, asks you to confirm, and writes Dusk Linux. Then remove the stick and restart.
  4. First start. The system grows to fill the disk. On the desktop, the welcome screens create your account. On a server, set the root password at the prompt, then run dusk-setup.

Unattended installs (virtual machines, provisioning): pass the target disk as a systemd credential, for example dusk.install.disk=/dev/vda. The installer then runs without questions and powers off when done.

Install Dusk Cloud from the apt repository instead of reinstalling.
